Atheists A.C Grayling and David silverman debate Austin Pastors.

Люди розчаровані? Бо думали, що на вербах виростуть груші, - кардинал Любомир Гузар

http://patrioty.org.ua/society/liudy-rozcharovani-bo-dumaly-shcho-na-verbakh-vyrostut-hrushi--kardynal-liubomyr-huzar-100906.html

Criminals Need Theology, Not Just Jesus

recent study out of Georgia State University shows that in some cases sharing the Christian faith with prisoners might cause them to commit morecrimes. According to the study’s abstract, Through purposeful distortion or genuine ignorance, the hardcore offenders we interviewed are able to exploit the absolvitory tenets of religious doctrine, neutralizing their fear of death to not only allow but encourage offending.
Basically, the criminals took advantage of God’s unlimited ability to forgive and held to the mistaken notion that as long as they ask for forgiveness after their crimes they will still go to heaven.  Here are some of the inmates relating this idea in their own words:
A 25-year-old criminal nicknamed “Cool” said he always says a “quick little prayer” before committing a crime in order to “stay cool with Jesus.” As long as you ask for forgiveness, Jesus has to give it to you, he said.
One 33-year-old criminal, identified in the study by the nickname “Triggerman,” refused to accept the suggestion that a consequence of murder was eternal damnation.
“No, no, no, I don’t think that is right,” he told the researchers. “Anything can be forgiven. We live in hell now and you can do anything in hell. . . . God has to forgive everyone, even if they don’t believe in him.”
Triggerman espouses a view that is more literal than it first appears—the view that God can’t send people to hell because we already live in hell. A 47-year-old criminal called “Detroit” said, “there is a heaven and there is a hell, but I believe that it is hell on earth, and we trying to fight to get (to heaven). . . . We already in hell, you know?”
While the harshness of inner city life and the collapse of the family can be blamed for some of these bizarre beliefs (as well as human ingenuity in the matter of rationalization), I also think we need to place blame on bad theology. God’s love and mercy are limitless, but when they are divorced from his holiness and justice God becomes a senile grandfather who lovingly, but stupidly, pampers us while we dupe him.
A loving God would not blindly tolerate sin. He would instead punish it with maximum efficiency. He would especially punish the sin of planning to repent in the future to justify sinning in the present, a sin calledpresumption. Of course, it is human nature to sin, and nothing we do can earn God’s love or forgiveness. What is the answer?
Salvation: Free, But Not Cheap
The answer is grace. God freely gives us his divine life, and we simply ask for it. This grace transforms our souls and makes us “partakers in the divine nature” (2 Pet. 4:8). We become children of God, or part of his family, so that with a spirit of adoption we can call God father (Rom. 8:15).
Of course, we can at any point choose to be prodigal sons or daughters and walk away from the divine family. This happens when we commit a mortal sin. We make a shipwreck of our faith (1 Tim. 1:19) and fall from grace (Gal. 5:4). However, if we heed Jesus’ words and persevere to the end (Matt. 10:22) by working out our salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), then we will be saved (Rom. 5:9).
Salvation is not earned (Eph. 2:8-9). It is a free gift as a member of God’s family. We can walk away from God’s offer and familial covenant and embrace eternal separation from God, although God will forgive us if we genuinely repent and return to faithfully worship him.
Some aspects of Protestant theology (which may be espoused by some of these prison chaplains) does lead to the idea that no matter what a human being does after he has been “saved,” that person will eventually go to heaven.
Once Saved, Always Saved?
But if someone “gets saved” and as a result can never lose his salvation, then wouldn’t he still go to heaven regardless of whether he abandons his faith? A critic might respond that such a person was never saved in the first place.
But this would mean that if a person ever loses his faith, even thirty or forty years after “accepting Jesus,” it only proves his initial acceptance of faith was not genuine. To say such people have never existed or to say there are only saints who persevere to the end and hypocrites who fall away and never truly believed at all stretches the bounds of credulity to the breaking point.
Under this view of salvation and justification, you could never know if your initial act of faith was real or if you were saved in the first place. It’s always possible that a personal tragedy or crisis of faith could cause you to abandon your faith later in life and therefore be one of those who was never saved at all.
Thus, under the Protestant view of justification, there is no assurance of salvation. I’ll address the biblical arguments in defense of this view (called eternal security) in my next post.

Reflecting on the policy of the ROC in Ukraine

For the “Putin's  Fundamentalists the Orthodox Brotherhood is a protection from “destructive soulless West”.
Many sincerely believe that the “Gayeuropa” or the “evil Yankees” will come if the “national identity” is not asserted, and all measures, even as barbaric as these ones are good for the cause.
The Russian Ecclesiological structure in many ways has become one of the common elements created by the Kremlin propaganda machine.
In the current Russian policy its  a substitute of the CPSU.
What was in politics CPSU in the Communist time that is now in some way the Russian Orthodox Church.
The statistics says that very little pertcentage of population is seriously involved in religious life, but in Donetsk, Lugansk its even much lower.
Comparing the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, these regions were the most atheistic, and this region has no experience of establishing a centralized system of catechization at all.
So the Kremlin creates religious-mystic myths that are designed to justify territorial expansion, and to save the brothers from the rotten west. (3 generations of Homo-sovieticus hear this propaganda again and again)
The same it was used by this Ecclesiologivcal structure in Serbia to justify the territorial expension.

This photo of my relatives family(just one family) is a real proof how great the Lord God Is in His Strength and His Blessings! Beautiful and Rich Evangelical family.

The old man stepped into eternity. Pictured his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren . The family is the foundation of any society. And traditional evangelical community is proving it.

Foetuses "dance" to Mozart and Queen

Anglo-Saxon cow bile and garlic potion kills MRSA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo4K51bQVs0

Microbiologists were astonished to find that not only did the salve clear up styes, but it also tackled the deadly superbug MRSA, which is resistant to many antibiotics.

A thousand-year-old medieval remedy for eye infections which was discovered in a manuscript in the British Library has been found to kill the superbug MRSA.
Anglo-Saxon expert Dr Christina Lee, from the School of English, at Nottingham University, recreated the 10th century potion to see if it really worked as an antibacterial remedy.
The 'eyesalve' recipe calls for two species of Allium (garlic and onion or leek), wine and oxgall (bile from a cow’s stomach).
It describes a very specific method of making the topical solution including the use of a brass vessel to brew it, a strainer to purify it and an instruction to leave the mixture for nine days before use.
None of the experts really expected the concoction to work. But when it was tested, microbiologists were amazed to find that not only did the salve clear up styes, but it also tackled the deadly superbug MRSA, which is resistant to many antibiotics.
“We were genuinely astonished at the results of our experiments in the lab,” said Dr Lee.
“We believe modern research into disease can benefit from past responses and knowledge, which is largely contained in non-scientific writings.
“But the potential of these texts to contribute to addressing the challenges cannot be understood without the combined expertise of both the arts and science.”
Dr Lee translated the recipe from Bald’s Leechbook, a leatherbound Old Enlgish manuscript which is kept in the British Library.
The Leechbook is widely thought of as one of the earliest known medical textbooks and contains Anglo-Saxon medical advice and recipes for medicines, salves and treatments.
“Medieval leech books and herbaria contain many remedies designed to treat what are clearly bacterial infections, weeping wounds/sores, eye and throat infections, skin conditions such as erysipelas, leprosy and chest infections,” Dr Lee added.
The scientists at Nottingham made four separate batches of the remedy using fresh ingredients each time, as well as a control treatment using the same quantity of distilled water and brass sheeting to mimic the brewing container but without the vegetable compounds.
None of the individual ingredients alone had any measurable effect, but when combined according to the recipe the MRSA populations were almost totally obliterated: about one bacterial cell in a thousand survived in mice wounds.
Researchers believe the antibacterial effect of the recipe is not due to a single ingredient but the combination used and brewing methods. Further research is planned to investigate how and why this works.
Microbiologists at Nottingham University said they were ‘genuinely amazed’ by the discovery.
“We thought that Bald’s eyesalve might show a small amount of antibiotic activity, because each of the ingredients has been shown by other researchers to have some effect on bacteria in the lab,” said Dr Freya Harrison who led the work in the laboratory.
“But we were absolutely blown away by just how effective the combination of ingredients was.
“This truly cross-disciplinary project explores a new approach to modern health care problems by testing whether medieval remedies contain ingredients which kill bacteria or interfere with their ability to cause infection”.
Scientist Dr Steve Diggle added: “When we built this recipe in the lab I didn't really expect it to actually do anything.
“When we found that it could actually disrupt and kill cells in (MRSA) biofilms, I was genuinely amazed.”Dr Kendra Rumbaugh, of Texas Tech University in the US, who was asked to replicate the findings, said that the salve performed ‘good if not better’ than traditional antibiotics at tackling the superbug.
The team at Nottingham is seeking more funding to extend the research so that it could be tested on humans.
The findings were presented at the Annual Conference of the Society for General Microbiology in Birmingham which runs from March 30.(Telegraph)

Scientists Discover All-Natural Medieval Potion Kills Superbugs & Infections That Antibiotics Can’t

In the midst of fighting super bacteria which are resistant to modern-day antibiotics, a one-thousand year-old Anglo-Saxon potion made out of onions, garlic, wine, and bile from a cow’s stomach was found to wipe out the resistant superbugs like MRSA, according to new research.

Discovered in one of the earliest known medical textbooks, Bald’s Leechbook, this ancient ‘eyesalve’ remedy calls for two species of Allium (garlic and onion or leek), wine and oxgall (bile from a cow’s stomach) to be brewed in a brass vessel. So scientists made an attempt at duplicating the recipe.

“We chose this recipe in Bald’s Leechbook because it contains ingredients such as garlic that are currently investigated by other researchers on their potential antibiotic effectiveness.

And so we looked at a recipe that is fairly straightforward. It’s also a recipe where we are told it’s the ‘best of leechdoms’ — how could you not test that? So we were curious,” said Christina Lee, an expert on Anglo-Saxon society from the School of English at the University of Nottingham

Microbiologist Freya Harrison, who led the work in the lab at the School of Life Sciences, said:

“We recreated the recipe as faithfully as we could. The Bald gives very precise instructions for the ratio of different ingredients and for the way they should be combined before use, so we tried to follow that as closely as possible.”

After gathering all of the ingredients, which involved having to find and travel to a 19th-century old vineyard, the researchers tested the recipe on cultures of the MRSA bacterial strain. MRSA is known to resist conventional antibiotics.
While having realistic expectations, the scientists were reportedly astonished by the results:

“What we found was very interesting — we found that Bald’s eyesalve is incredibly potent as an anti-Staphylococcal antibiotic in this context.

We were going from a mature, established population of a few billion cells, all stuck together in this highly protected biofilm coat, to really just a few thousand cells left alive. This is a massive, massive killing ability,” Harrison said.

Further adding to the good news is that even after 3 more recipes were made from scratch, the positive results were duplicated. What’s more, the salve is said to retain its potency for a long period of time after being created and stored.

The research team says that the medicine kills up to 90% of MRSA bacteria in “in vivo” wound biopsies from mice.

Will this recipe be one of our many potential solutions to the superbugs our modern-day medicine can’t defeat? Hopefully this research is embraced and we can move toward an alternative solution.

“I still can’t quite believe how well this 1,000-year-old antibiotic actually seems to be working,” Harrison said. “When we got the first results we were just utterly dumbfounded. We did not see this coming at all.”

“Obviously you can never say with utter certainty that because it works in the lab it’s going to work as an antibiotic, but the potential of this to take on to the next stage and say, ‘yeah, really does it work as an antibiotic’ is just beyond my wildest dreams, to be honest.”

Should we accept the Aleksandr Dugin statements on Tourism?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUM6S8kcEZA

I just saw on You-Tube the deluded views on tourism by the Russian thinker Alexander Dugin.
According to Dugin, tourism is a depraved abomination.
For many, this opinion may seem not just primitive but also absurd.
For example no one will condemn a man with convictions, who in his charity for his neighbour would give up his summer vacation in order to help them.
It is possible to understand an ultra-conservative-family who doesn’t like the beaches and the noise of discos, trying to stay away from uncomfortable social situations.
You can accept that for recreation, it is unnecessary to travel to a far off holiday destination, when there are always alternatives nearby.
But the opinion of the Russian Ultra-traditionalist about tourism as a depraved evil, is not just an excessive xenophobic hostility to modern society. His thinking in such black-or-white is extremely damaging when such a person is pushing such extreme ideological ideals into millions of people.
As an example, in 1930’s Germany with Hilter with his rambling book Mein Kampf and the Nationalist Socialist Party.  Such tactics can be seen today being repeated with the gradual canonization of Stalin to convince the current generations that such times were a utopian dream to be restored to the whole world.
Ideological inferiority of the thinker must also appear in his provisions on other topics.
The war-monger Alexander Dugin is the enemy of "tourism" he is actually a big supporter of the militaristic-interventionalistic tourist trade.  The Little green men in uniform  according to Dugin – is the right tourist!...
How very sad and small minded !

Bury the dead: a work of mercy through the centuries

ROME (CNS) — If a pilgrim walking to Rome for a Holy Year fell mortally ill far from home or a poor tenant farmer died working in a field or an unidentifiable victim of murder was found, a group of courageous Christians buried these anonymous or forgotten dead with dignity.
Founded in 1538, the Archconfraternity of St. Mary of the Oration and Death in Rome spent nearly 500 years offering a Christian funeral and burial to those who would otherwise never have one.
Burying and praying for the dead are among the corporal and spiritual works of mercy Pope Francis has asked people to carry out during the upcoming Year of Mercy.
Many popes, over the past centuries, had supported the difficult and somber work of the archconfraternity, starting with Pope Paul III, who wanted to see the association formally established, said Alfonso Sapia, head of the archconfraternity.
During Advent in early December in 1538, a Capuchin priest gave such an impassioned homily about the tragedy of those abandoned at death and the immense spirit shown by those who risked danger and disease to bury them, he inspired a huge number of people in the pews to join the new lay association.
(CNS logo/Malcolm Grear Designers)
(CNS/Malcolm Grear Designers)
Several decades later, Pope Paul V gave the confraternity’s chaplains special permission to celebrate Mass outside of a church, before sunrise and after sunset if necessary — “prerogatives that had been unthinkable” at the time, Sapia told Catholic News Service.
Members often walked long distances at any time of day or night to get to an abandoned body. The special dispensation was granted because sometimes they couldn’t get the deceased to a cemetery quickly enough and the dangers of natural disasters, disease, wild animals or advanced decay necessitated immediate burial.
Recognizing the confraternity’s important work, St. Pope Pius V granted clemency every year to one prisoner on death row and entrusted the confraternity members and their families to take in the formerly condemned man and his family — teaching them skills, a trade and helping them back on their feet, Sapia said.
The pope also conceded to the confraternity the rare privilege of collecting money on the street and in taverns to pay for the burials of the poor. “It wasn’t legal to raise money without authorization from the pontiff,” he said.
Because taverns were still a hothouse of murder in the 16th century, “people would get drunk, and it would end up like in the Wild West,” with stabbings and things getting smashed, he said. The owner always kept one of the confraternity’s black metal canisters on hand to collect spare change and donations to then pay for any eventual burials.
Located on the wide cobblestone road of Via Giulia, the Church of St. Mary of the Oration and Death — and the confraternity’s headquarters — are still surrounded by foreign embassies and ornate buildings once owned or inhabited by noble families and wealthy merchants.
Rome’s wealthiest and powerful families were almost always enthusiastic donors and even members of the confraternity, Sapia said.
“The more of a troublemaker they were, they more generous they were in donations, because that way the people would pray” for their souls and salvation from purgatory, Sapia said.
Large commemorative marble plaques with lengthy inscriptions and entreaties for people’s prayers decorate the walls behind a chapel of the church.
Another, more unexpected form of remembrance is seen in the lower portion of the church, where scores of skulls sit neatly in rows on wooden shelves set into the walls. The deceased’s name, and date and cause of death are chiseled onto the forehead. Sapia said many confraternity members had wanted their skulls preserved in the church “as a testimony of affection” and as a way to say, “I love this confraternity and I will never leave it, not even after I die.”
Other skulls in the crypt belonged to the poor whose cause of death shows the difficult conditions just a few generations ago: almost all of the skulls belonging to women document them dying during childbirth, he said.
A holy water font is watched over by the upper torso of a skeleton, and the chandeliers lit overhead are an artistic composite of vertebrae and the triangular sacrum — “the sacred bone” — at the end of the spinal column. He said using bones serves as a reminder that from darkness and death there shall be light.
Sapia said such concrete reminders of death “seems awful and terrible” in today’s culture, but back then “people didn’t live past 50, and death was much more human,” with people being much more aware and accepting of dying.
“Besides praying for and burying the dead, the confraternity also taught people not to be hedonists,” living only for the present moment “and doing want we want right now,” he said.
“Instead what the confraternity told people was, ‘Yes, we have to live well, but most of all we have to die without being afraid of dying,'” which meant being ready for God’s judgment by trying to live a holy life.
With the group’s last burial in the 1950s, as a post-war Italian government began to provide basic human and social services, the archconfraternity’s mission had to change, he said.
Their work is now based “on the three C’s: Christ, charity and culture,” he said, as they promote sacred art and music.
Confraternities, Sapia said, have been essential in providing charitable care and preserving the spiritual life of the church, especially during the Reformation.
“When Martin Luther started the reform, people became much more distanced from the Catholic Church,” he said.
But while fewer people were attending Mass in Rome’s major basilicas, he said, the confraternity’s smaller churches stayed full, where “there wasn’t the arrogance of the cardinal” and people were simpler, more humble and more gracious.
This approach and attitude “helped the church in the Counter-Reformation,” he said, as the confraternities “were used to guide the church” toward successful reform.
Sapia said he sees a parallel with Pope Francis.
“The confraternity, as Francis says, smelled of sheep” and members didn’t wait for people to come to them for help, but bravely ventured off to bring the church to people in need, he said.http://cnstopstories.com/2015/12/04/bury-the-dead-a-work-of-mercy-through-the-centuries/

1000-year-old Bible found in Turkey

Police in Turkey have recovered a Bible thought to be a thousand years old. The holy book, which was found in the central Turkish city of Tokat, is written in the old Assyriac language.
According to the Daily Mail, the priceless book was recovered after smugglers tried to sell it to undercover officers.
It is not known where the Bible originates from. Written in the old Assyriac language, its cover is reportedly damaged, but its remaining 51 pages have images and religious motifs in gold leaf.
The Christian Post has reported that the book contains pictures of Jesus Christ and other biblical figures.
The Bible was recovered during a series of police operations, reports the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. The paper says the authorities moved after being informed that three suspects were marketing historical artefacts.
Four operations were reportedly launched, in the centre of Tokat and the nearby Turhal district. Hurriyet says ten people were taken into custody.
Other valuable items including jewellery and ancient coins were also said to have been recovered, while the Bible was delivered to a museum.
It’s hoped that the ancient book will provide rare insights into the way Christianity developed in past centuries.

Most Americans believe in heaven … and hell

It’s natural for people to want things to turn out well in the end, both in life and, apparently, afterwards. Roughly seven-in-ten (72%) Americans say they believe in heaven — defined as a place “where people who have led good lives are eternally rewarded,” according to the Pew Research Center’s 2014 Religious Landscape Study.
But at the same time, 58% of U.S. adults also believe in hell — a place “where people who have led bad lives and die without being sorry are eternally punished.”
These percentages are little changed from 2007, when Pew Research Center’s firstReligious Landscape Studyfound that 74% of Americans believed in heaven, and 59% believed in hell.
Among religiously affiliated Americans, the belief that there is a heaven is even more widespread, with 82% holding this view, about the same as in 2007. Belief in hell has held relatively steady in this group.
Compared with non-Christians and the unaffiliated, U.S. Christians are more likely to believe in both afterlife destinations. The existence of heaven is almost universally accepted by Mormons (95%) and members of historically black Protestant denominations (93%), as well as by about eight-in-ten or more evangelical Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox Christians and mainline Protestants.
Meanwhile, 82% of evangelical Protestants and members of historically black Protestant churches say they believe in hell. Somewhat fewer Catholics, Mormons, mainline Protestants and Orthodox Christians also hold this view.
Muslims are similar to Christians in views of an afterlife, with 89% saying they believe in heaven and 76% believing in hell.
Among other non-Christians, however, beliefs that there are places of eternal reward and punishment after death are not as widely held. Roughly half or fewer of Hindus, Buddhists and Jews believe in heaven. And roughly a third or less of Buddhists, Hindus, and Jews believe in the concept of hell.
Not surprisingly, far fewer religious “nones” — a group that includes atheists, agnostics and people who say their religion is “nothing in particular” — say they believe in the existence of heaven and hell. Fewer than four-in-ten (37%) “nones” say they believe in heaven , while 27% believe in hell.
An exception are those “nones” who say religion is important to them. Their views are similar to the general public’s, with 72% professing a belief in heaven. They also are roughly twice as likely as religiously unaffiliated people in general to believe in hell (55% vs 27%).
