We used to speak of Holy Mother, the Church. We spoke of the church as the structure in individual parishes. Now we have a new subdivision which is the "church", that one distinct from the ones we have always known and loved.

The Pope didn't say "Who am I to judge?", he said "If someone is gay and is searching for the Lord and has good will, then who am I to judge him?"
There are two problems with this - it doesn't fit the Gay agenda and it doesn't fit on a regular T-Shirt.

So it was changed - but not by the Pope.
He later clarified and said "“On that occasion I said this: If a person is gay and seeks out the
Lord and is willing, who am I to judge that person?. I was paraphrasing by heart the Catechism of the Catholic Church where it says that these people should be treated with delicacy
and not be marginalized.”

I think what has happened here is that someone heard the Pope say "I still haven’t found anyone with an identity card in the Vatican with “gay” on it. "
Now they have T-shirts that proclaim their identity - those who use lies, and misinterpretations to support their right to get away with debauchery.
There was a time when journalists were honest and respected the Pope and did not twist his words to suit their own agenda.
That's a change.
